Accessibility Statement

Last updated: 9 June 2026

Our Commitment

FuneralCompare is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for all users, including those with disabilities. We believe that comparing funeral prices and making informed decisions at a difficult time should be straightforward for everyone, regardless of ability or the technology they use.

We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure our service is usable by people with a wide range of abilities, including those who rely on assistive technologies such as screen readers, voice recognition software, and keyboard-only navigation.

We recognise that our users may be visiting the site at a time of emotional distress. Our goal is to remove barriers and make the process of finding and comparing funeral services as simple and dignified as possible.

Accessibility Standards

Our accessibility efforts are guided by the following standards and legislation:

  • Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA — We aim to conform to all Level A and Level AA success criteria.
  • Equality Act 2010 — We comply with our legal duty to make reasonable adjustments for disabled users accessing our service.
  • EN 301 549 — We follow the European standard for digital accessibility where applicable.

Conformance Status

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) define requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. FuneralCompare is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Partially conformant means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the accessibility standard.

We are actively working to address the known limitations listed below and aim to achieve full conformance in a future release.

Known Limitations

While we strive to ensure the entire site is accessible, we have identified the following areas that are not yet fully accessible:

  • Interactive maps: The funeral director location maps embedded from third-party services may not be fully navigable via keyboard alone. We are exploring alternative solutions.
  • Historical price charts: Some data visualisations and charts may not include full text-based alternatives. We are working on providing data table equivalents alongside charts.
  • Third-party PDF uploads: Price list PDFs uploaded by funeral directors may not be fully accessible. We encourage providers to use our structured data forms instead.
  • Older browser support: Some advanced CSS layout features used on the site may not render correctly in Internet Explorer 11 or other legacy browsers. We recommend using a modern, supported browser.

Using This Site

We have designed FuneralCompare with the following accessibility features:

  • Keyboard navigation: All interactive elements are reachable via the Tab key. Focus indicators are visible on all focusable elements.
  • Skip links:A “Skip to main content” link is provided at the top of every page to allow keyboard users to bypass navigation.
  • Semantic HTML: Pages are structured using proper heading hierarchies (h1 through h3), landmark regions (main, nav, footer), and descriptive link text.
  • Colour contrast: Text and background colours meet WCAG AA contrast ratio requirements. We do not rely on colour alone to convey information.
  • Responsive design: The site adapts to different screen sizes and zoom levels up to 200% without loss of content or functionality.
  • Alternative text: All informative images include descriptive alt text. Decorative images are hidden from assistive technologies.
